How to Play a fun game Go Nancy

Starting Position of Go Nancy
The Pebbles should be arranged like this to begin with
Go Nancy is a 2 player game that looks simple but it's more than it seems. It's really fun and challending. One time Nancy was playing it, and I said "Go Nancy!" and from that time on we called it "Go Nancy".

So how do we play this interesting game? It's very simple to prepare - you just need a piece of paper and 6 pebbles for each player. Draw a 4x4 grid on the paper, and start by placing the pebbles on the paper (see the picture to the right to it show it should start). You can play it anywhere - even draw on the street with chalk and pick up 12 rocks!

The idea is that you need to 'eat' all of the other player's pebbles. To start, one player moves one of their pebbles into an empty space, then the next player moves into an empty space, and so on. To eat the other player's pebble, you need to line up two of your own pebbles so that there is the opponents pebble on the other end. See figure 1 for an example of this (at the bottom of this page). In this figure, the purple player has just moved so that there are 2 purple pebbles next to 1 orange pebble, so the orange pebble will be eaten.

However, there can only be three pebbles in one row for a pebble to be eaten. Have a look at figure 2. In this case, the purple pebble is not eaten because there are 4 pebbles in the line.

The final rule is that to eat, the last move must be by one of the two attacking pebbles. Look at figure 3. Here, although there will be two orange and one purple pebble lined up, the purple one will not be eaten because it was the purple one that moved there. Now look at figure 4. Again, the purple one will not be eaten even though orange was the last one to move. This is because the last orange move was not one of the two that are lined up.

When one player has only one pebble left, the other player wins. An alternative, move difficult way to win is by trapping all of the other player's pebbles so that they can't move anywhere.

So it is a very simple game which can be very challenging. You just need some paper and something to use as pebbles. Or, you just need a phone! NancyHu.com has created a free Java game that you can download to your phone. Download the mobile phone game here.
